ABDEC was a interactive installation, which invites the viewer to become a participant by crawling into the work and closing the door. Inside this wooden
ABCDE block the walls are soft, padded and covered in baby blankets offering a secure and comforting space to relax. The softness of the materials surrounding the viewer and the small darkened space aim to remind the participant of being snuggled up in bed as a child. I wanted the space to be a place where everyone can be tucked away, a safe-place, which may become too secure and eventually claustrophobic. Other viewers may stay so long that they fall asleep in the space. I am very interested in exploring our relationship with different spaces and how they can physically cause us to feel a certain way by inhibiting them. I want to stir up emotion in my audience as they look, interact and become part of the work and provoke thoughts and memories.
